Sometimes the work begins with one leader.
Sometimes it begins within an organization.
Rarely does it end where it started.
LeaderSHIFT
There are moments in a professional journey when what got you here stops working - even though nothing looks “wrong” from the outside. Inside, something feels off - perhaps even misaligned - whether it’s within a leadership team, a role that no longer fits or an organization that has outgrown the way it is currently operating.
Decisions that used to be easy start to create internal swirl. Team confidence that was previously a differentiator begins to waver.
Getting the work through the system feels heavier than it used to - or should.
I’m Karen Crane, an executive leadership coach and strategic business advisor who works with c-suite executives, senior leaders, founders, and leadership teams at moments when responsibility expands, visibility increases, the stakes change and what worked before no longer does.
I call these moments of a LeaderSHIFT™: the internal and external transitions leaders and organizations make when what got them here is no longer enough for where they’re going next.
For seasoned and successful leaders, a LeaderSHIFT can also happen after impact, burnout, disruption, or a major career inflection point - when the question isn’t whether you’re capable, but how you want to lead now and what comes next.
For organizations, it can happen when the business has evolved faster than the way the organization operates - when the ambition, talent, structure, roles, or ways of working are no longer aligned with what the business is trying to become.
These moments are rarely about capability.
They’re about recalibration, and sometimes systemic transformation.
Over the years, I’ve seen the same leadership moments repeat across roles, creative organizations, agencies, brands, and career stages.
They sound different on the surface, but the shifts underneath are remarkably consistent.
LeaderSHIFT shows up across my executive coaching and organizational work - whether I’m working one-on-one with a senior leader, with a leadership team, a creative department, or inside an entire organization.
The names and faces may change.
The need for a shift is the constant.
First, the internal work happens.
Then the visible outcome follows.
Here are some of the LeaderSHIFTs I’ve helped leaders and organizations navigate:
LEADERSHIFT SNAPSHOTS:
FROM SECOND-GUESSING TO AUTHORITY
FROM SWIRLING TO LAUNCHING
FROM BEING UNDERESTIMATED TO HAVING LEVERAGE
FROM SURVIVING TO THRIVING
FROM I’LL NEVER FIND A JOB TO I GOT WHAT I WANTED
For more than 20 years, I've helped build and transform some of the most highly awarded creative organizations in the advertising industry.
I've developed talent strategies, built creative teams, and created the structures that enable people and businesses to do their best work.
I didn't simply hire great talent. I helped build the environments where that talent could thrive - and the next generation of leaders could emerge.
The impact has lasted well beyond my time inside those organizations.
People I've hired and supported throughout their careers are now leading some of the world's most respected agencies, brands, and creative businesses.
Some still acknowledge our work together in publications like Adweek and Muse by Clios.
Today, I bring that experience to my work as an executive coach and strategic advisor to creative leaders, founders, and organizations.
My perspective wasn't developed from the sidelines. It comes from inside the industry, inside the conference rooms, and inside the conversations where consequential decisions are made.
I understand what it takes to build a successful creative organization—and what happens when the leadership, culture, and structures that got you here need to evolve to take you further.
That's where I do my best work.
Whether you're navigating your own leadership shift or leading an organization through one, I can help you move from where you are to what's next.
Let's connect to explore how we might work together.
My Story
How It Works
Meaningful change begins with understanding what's happening beneath the surface.
Whether we're working together one-on-one or across an organization, we begin by getting clear on where you are, where you want to go, and what's getting in the way.
Through discovery, honest conversation, reflection, and practical application, we identify the patterns, behaviors, and structures that may have helped you succeed in the past but are no longer serving you.
Then we get to work.
Together, we translate insight into action - building the clarity, capacity, and consistency required to lead differently, navigate complexity, and create lasting change.
This isn't about becoming someone else.
It's about becoming more intentional and effective in how you lead, so you can move from where you are now to what's next.
